The Industrial Engineer / Plant Layout Lead will lead the planning, design, implementation, and control of Ampera’s new manufacturing facility layout. This role will translate product demand, manufacturing processes, equipment requirements, material flow, workforce needs, and facility constraints into a safe, efficient, flexible, and scalable plant design.

The initial focus will be establishing manufacturing capability for Ampera’s near-term Power Now solutions while developing the capacity and expansion roadmap for future Nuclear Next industrialization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain block, detailed, installation, and as-built facility layouts.
  • Define manufacturing areas, work centers, adjacencies, equipment locations, and production flow.
  • Develop capacity, labor, workstation, equipment, and space-requirement models.
  • Design assembly, integration, rework, maintenance, tooling, and material-staging areas.
  • Plan material flow from receiving through manufacturing, finished-unit staging, and shipping.
  • Define workstation, tooling, fixture, lifting, rigging, ergonomic, and maintenance-access requirements.
  • Coordinate manufacturing utility needs, including power, HVAC, ventilation, compressed air, industrial gases, network, and MES devices.
  • Conduct time studies, line balancing, labor analysis, and production-flow optimization.
  • Support equipment installation, dry runs, pilot builds, and production-readiness reviews.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Testing, Quality, Supply Chain, Facilities, EHS, Maintenance, MES/IT, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Maintain controlled layout revisions and develop expansion plans supporting growth through 2030.
Education and Experience

Required

  • Five or more years of industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, factory planning, or production-operations experience.
  • Experience with facility layout, capacity planning, material flow, workstation design, labor analysis, and line balancing.
  • Experience supporting a new facility, production-line installation, plant expansion, or new-product launch.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, equipment specifications, bills of material, and manufacturing routings.
Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with complex, low-volume, engineered, or capital-equipment products.
  • Experience in power generation, thermal systems, turbomachinery, advanced nuclear energy, aerospace, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
  • Experience with large skids, cranes, rigging, heavy lifts, utilities, and equipment commissioning.
  • Experience working in a startup or greenfield manufacturing environment.
  • Lean Six Sigma, Certified Manufacturing Engineer, PMP, or similar certification.
Software and Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable facility-layout software.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for capacity, labor, staffing, and scenario modeling.
  • Experience with one or more of the following:

    • Autodesk Factory Design Utilities
    • Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, Revit, or Navisworks
    • Microsoft Visio
    • Power BI, Minitab, or JMP
    • Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or Smartsheet
    • MES, ERP, PLM, or electronic work-instruction systems
    • Manufacturing simulation tools such as FlexSim, AnyLogic, Arena, Simio, or Siemens Plant Simulation
  •
Key Competencies

  • Capacity and resource planning
  • Material-flow optimization
  • Workstation and manufacturing-cell design
  • Labor modeling and line balancing
  • Lean manufacturing
