About the Position

Job Opportunity – NICU Registered Nurse – Virginia

Start Date: November 9, 2026

Location: Central Virginia

Schedule: Night shift; 36 or 48 hours per week; 13 or 26-week assignment available; 3 weekends per 6-week scheduling period; Must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays

Highlights:

• Level III/IV NICU with 54-bed capacity treating the most complex neonatal cases including extreme prematurity (22 weeks and above), cardiac anomalies, and surgical patients
• Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity level
• Advanced care experience with high-frequency ventilation, whole body cooling, ECMO support, and hemodynamic management
• Epic charting system with 36 hours of comprehensive orientation
• Interdisciplinary support including respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and specialty services
• Float opportunities within scope of practice to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, and Labor & Delivery

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of full-time Level III NICU experience required; Level IV highly preferred
• Active Virginia RN license (or pending, must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)
• BLS certification required
• NRP certification required (must be in hand at time of submission)
• Dr. Brown's Infant Driven Feeding Certificate required (can be pending at submission)
• Epic charting system experience required
• Strong competency in high-frequency ventilation, conventional ventilators, iNO, tracheostomy care, IV fluid/drip management, hemodynamic support, post-operative care, and whole body cooling
• Demonstrated experience with IV placements, lab draws, wound/drain/line care, ostomy care, and assisting with advanced procedures including intubation, lumbar punctures, and line placements
• Experience with patient ratios of 1:3 or better
• Flu vaccination required (no exemptions)

Additional Information:

• Maximum 40 hours of approved time off per 13-week contract
• Time off cannot be approved during the first two weeks of assignment or around Christmas
• BSN preferred
• Floating required within scope of practice to catch and transition newborns in Labor & Delivery, newborn care in Mother/Baby and Postpartum units, and infant care in Pediatrics and PICU
• Specialty-specific modules completed during orientation
